In October 2012 LANtech was awarded a sizable contract by the Dodd Group a large M&E Contractor in the South West to supply and install a complete new CAT5E UTP LSZH network and asscociated fibre optic backbone cabling including comms cabinets at Barton Hill Academy in Torquay.
Barton Hill Academy has benefitted from a £3.5m investment from Torbay Council for the refurbishment of its accommodation. The project has dealt with building condition issues, and provided improved indoor and outdoor teaching and play spaces, improved DDA access and created a focal point for users and visitors to the Academy.
Due to the fact this was a complete strip-out and refurbishment of an existing working school, the project was split into four phases over a nearly 2 year period. All work for the various phases had to be completed within a set programme in-between school terms with each phase handed over on time with no over-runs.
LANtech Communications provided a complete Nexans Essential CAT5E UTP LSZH data cabling solution for the entire project. The data cabling incorporated approximately 350 Nexans Essential CAT5E UTP outlets for use as desktop data outlets, WIFI coverage and telephone outlets with the main server room housed in the Phase 4 basement and sub-comms cabinets located within electrical switch cupboards in phases 1, 2 and 3.
Each comms cabinet in the various phases has been linked to the main server room with 8core 50/125 OM2 multimode fibre optic cable creating the backbone cabling.
LANtech have provided a Nexans 25year Warranty, along with the necessary test certification and as fitted drawings for the installation. All work was completed on time and to budget.
